The album's third, Turn Back, marked a return to the classic sextet arrangement of previous albums and was a stronger, more constant effort with an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. Its more punk-rock sound reflected the maturation of the group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's greater ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery from singer Joseph Williams.
