Pragmatics and Semantics
Many modern philosophical perspectives focus on semantics. For example, Brandom focuses on linguistic meaning (albeit from a pragmatic viewpoint).
Others adopt a more holistic view of pragmatics, like relevance theory, which aims to explore the understanding processes involved in an utterance made by a hearer. However, this approach tends to neglect other elements of pragmatism, such as epistemic debates on truth.
What is pragmatism?
Pragmatism is a philosophical perspective that provides a different perspective to continental philosophy and analytic philosophy. It was initiated by Charles Sanders Peirce and

The pragmatic maxim is at the center of classical pragmatics. It is a principle that clarifies the meaning of hypotheses through their 'practical implications' or their implications for the experience of specific situations. This creates a distinct epistemological perspective that is a form of 'inquiry epistemology' based on inquiry, and an anti Cartesian explanation of the norms that govern inquiry. The early pragmatists generally disagreed on the issue of whether pragmatism can think of itself as a scientific philosophy that focuses on a monism of truth (following Peirce), or a broad-based alethic pluralism (James and Dewey).

The relationship between pragmatism, semantics and their interrelationships is complex. The main difference is that pragmatics thinks about other factors than literal meanings of words, which includes the intended meaning as well as the context that a statement was made. In recent decades, the neopragmatism movement has been heavily focused on metaphilosophy as well as the philosophy of language. Despite these difficulties, pragmatic approach continues to grow in global popularity. It is a crucial third option to the continental and analytic philosophical traditions, and has a variety of practical applications. It is a rapidly growing field of inquiry, with numerous schools of thought developing and incorporating pragmatism's principles into their own philosophical framework.
