Discourse Construction Tests
The test for discourse completion is a common tool in the field of pragmatic research. It has numerous advantages, but also a few disadvantages. For instance the DCT is unable to account for the cultural and individual differences in communicative behavior. Additionally, the DCT is susceptible to bias and may lead to overgeneralizations. It is important to carefully analyze the data before being used for research or evaluation.
Despite its limitations the DCT is a useful tool to investigate the connection between prosody, information structure and non-native speakers. The ability of the DCT in two or more stages to alter social variables that affect politeness is a plus. This can assist researchers study the role of prosody in communication across cultural contexts, a key issue in cross-cultural pragmatics.
In the field of linguistics DCT is one of the most effective tools used to study the behavior of communication learners. It can be used to analyze numerous issues, like politeness, turn-taking, and the use of lexical terms. It can also be used to assess the phonological difficulty of learners' speech.
Recent research utilized a DCT as tool to evaluate the refusal skills of EFL students. Participants were presented with a variety of scenarios to choose from and were then asked to select the appropriate response. The researchers found the DCT to be more effective than other methods for refusing,

Metapragmatic Questionnaires (MQs)
This study looked at Chinese learners their pragmatic choices when they use Korean. It employed various tools for experimentation such as Discourse Completion Tasks, metapragmatic questions and Refusal Interviews. Participants were 46 CLKs with upper-intermediate ability who provided responses to DCTs and MQs. They were also asked to reflect on their evaluation and refusal performance in RIs. The results showed that CLKs are more likely to resist native Korean pragmatic norms. Their decisions were influenced by four factors such as their personality and multilingual identities, their current life histories and their relational affordances. These findings have implications for pedagogy for L2 Korean assessment.
The MQ data were examined to determine the participants' rational choices. The data were categorized according to Ishihara's (2010) definition of pragmatic resistance. Refusal Interviews (RIs)
A key question of pragmatic research is the reason why learners decide to rescind pragmatic norms that native speakers use. Recent research sought to answer this question using several experimental tools including DCTs MQs and RIs. The participants were comprised of 46 CLKs, 44 CNSs and 45 KNSs from five Korean universities. They were asked to perform the DCTs in their native language and to complete the MQs in either their L1 or their L2. The results showed that, on average, the CLKs resisted the pragmatic norms of native speakers in more than 40% of their responses. They did this even when they were able to produce patterns that were similar to natives. They were also aware of their pragmatism. They attributed their decision to learner-internal factors such as their personality and multilingual identities. They also referred to external factors, like relational affordances. The interviewees expressed concerns about the social pressures and penalties they could be subject to in the event that their local social norms were not followed. They were worried that their native friends would consider them "foreigners" and think they are incompetent. This is similar to that expressed by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).
These findings suggest that native-speakers' pragmatic norms are not the preferred norm for Korean learners. They may remain useful as a model for official Korean proficiency tests. But it is advisable for future researchers to reassess their usefulness in particular situations and in various cultural contexts. This will allow them to better understand the effect of different cultural environments on the classroom behavior and interactions of students in L2.
